Kia pro_cee’d GT scores 5-star safety rating

The all-new Kia pro_cee’d GT has been given a top safety rating

The all-new Kia pro_cee’d GT has been given a top safety rating to match its performance and stylish good looks.

A 5-star safety rating has been awarded to the sporty 3-door pro_cee’d GT in the latest round of ANCAP testing for the New Zealand and Australian markets – it actually ranked very highly in tests, scoring a 36.19 out of 37 rating from the ANCAP engineers.

ANCAP officials say the pro_cee’d GT passenger compartment held its shape well in the frontal offset test, with pedal and steering wheel displacements well controlled, adding that driver and passenger contact with the airbags was stable. All doors remained closed during the impact and could easily be opened afterwards.

In the side impact test the occupant protection for head, chest, abdomen and pelvis all received maximum scores. And for the pole test, the pro_cee’d GT also scored the maximum points, while whiplash protection was rated as good, the highest level outcome.

The result underlines the commitment of Kia Motors to design and build cars that offer significant active and passive protection for the occupants in the event of a crash.

“Safety is an important factor in the buying decision today and it is comforting to know that independent tests support the strong lead taken by Kia Motors,” says Todd McDonald, General Manager of Kia Motors New Zealand.

“We fully anticipated that pro_cee’d GT would achieve a 5-star rating, but it is nice to have the official stamp of approval.”

The top ANCAP safety rating was the second piece of good news in this part of the world for the pro_cee’d GT in the space of a few days, after the car won a prestigious Good Design Australia Award for its stunning looks and overall design.

Kia introduced the pro_cee’d GT to the New Zealand market in April , to complement the 2-door Cerato Koup – both are powered by the same 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, but a matched to different transmissions, with the pro_cee’d GT having a 6-speed manual and the Koup a 6-speed automatic.

Priced at $43,990 + ORC, the well-equipped pro_cee’d GT is covered by Kia’s acclaimed 5-year warranty programme that incorporates 24-hour roadside assistance
